GABRIELLE VALLIERE
Gabrielle has been dancing since the age of three and spent 5 years dancing professionally as an NFL Cheerleader. Professional cheerleading is very structured and rigid, focusing on synchronized, uniform movements. In an effort to expand my repertoire as a dancer, I elected to explore pole dancing since it allows more freedom of individual expression in a less structured style. I started taking classes at a pole dancing studio in Massachusetts and caught on very quickly (and absolutely fell in love with it). It was so empowering to discover that my body was capable of being so strong while at the same time moving in such a fluid and feminine way. I began teaching pole dancing in Massachusetts and upon moving to New York, I continued pole dancing and ended up at NYPD.
I enjoy pole dancing and teaching others the art of pole dancing because it encourages fitness in a fun and innovating way. As a dancer and teacher, I feel it is also my responsibility to negate the assumptions some people have about pole dancing. There is such a stigma connected with pole dancing; people often associate it with stripping…this “taboo” attitude is so inaccurate. Pole dancing is an art form that allows women to express themselves in a sensual yet classy way. It fosters confidence by giving women a venue to explore another form of exercise that demonstrates just how strong yet sexy their bodies can be.
